Austrian Dinner Show

Austrian Dinner Show

For those who adore Austrian culture, or are keen to become acquainted with its irresistible delights, an Austrian Dinner Show at Vienna's historic Rathauskeller is the ultimate sensory experience. Each year between April and October, the Vienna City Hall’s atmospheric and welcoming Grinziger Keller, a dining-room located within the Rathauskeller, hosts regular dinner-shows offering an enchanting blend of exquisite regional cuisine complemented by a vibrant and tasteful programme featuring a selection of the country's finest musical treasures.

Arranged as an alternating culinary and musical journey through Austria, each dinner-show has three themed sections and commences with menu dishes, and then live music, reflecting the Tyrolean mountains and Salzburg. Entitled 'Roses from Tirol', this interlude treats diners to songs, dances and instrumental music capturing the distinctive ambiance of this traditional region.

Following on, the evening's second phase, 'The Sound of Music', explores the characteristic flavours and melodies encountered in the picturesque Salzkammergut – Austria's spectacular lake district – and in the beautiful Danube valley. Once again, the artists perform items linked to local dance and folklore, including famous songs like 'Edelweiss', forever associated with Austria's heartland.

For the sumptuous finale, each dinner-show celebrates all things Viennese: a heavenly dessert to excite the palate, the sublime music of Strauss, Lehar and Stolz, and a ballet performance of 'The Blue Danube' – the greatest waltz ever composed, and Vienna's special gift to the world.

All dinner-shows are graced by the talents of the Austrian Dinner Show Ensemble: wonderful vocal soloists, spirited dancers in colourful regional costumes, and excellent musicians steeped in the performance traditions of Austrian music.
